Question 1

Who installs motorized shades in Las Vegas?

Accepted Answer

Smart Blinds + Shades, owned by Jennifer Wells, designs and installs motorized shades throughout Las Vegas, Henderson and Summerlin. Jennifer has 20+ years of window covering experience and handles each project personally, from measuring to programming your remotes, app or voice control. Servicing the Las Vegas Valley and Henderson, we bring the showroom to you! Call 702-900-3117 for an in-home consultation.

Question 2

What are the best blackout shades for Las Vegas heat?

Accepted Answer

For Las Vegas heat, the best choices are blackout roller shades with light-blocking side channels, such as LightGuard 360, or insulating blackout honeycomb shades. Both block harsh desert sun, reduce heat gain and protect floors and furniture from fading. Motorizing them lets you close west-facing windows on a schedule before afternoon sun hits. Call 702-900-3117 to see samples in your Henderson or Las Vegas home.

Question 3

What is the difference between a standard blackout roller shade and LightGuard 360?

Accepted Answer

A standard blackout roller shade blocks light through the fabric but leaves light gaps along the sides; LightGuard 360 adds a channel system around the shade to close those gaps for near-total darkness. That makes LightGuard 360 popular in Las Vegas bedrooms, media rooms and for shift workers. Jennifer can show both side by side in your home. Call 702-900-3117 to compare.

Question 4

How much do motorized shades cost in Las Vegas?

Accepted Answer

The cost of motorized shades depends on window size, number of windows, fabric, motor and power type, and smart-home controls, so every project is quoted individually. Smart Blinds + Shades offers in-home quotes anywhere in Las Vegas and Henderson with clear, upfront pricing and no hidden fees. Call 702-900-3117 to schedule your in-home measure and quote.

Question 5

Do you serve Henderson and Summerlin?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Smart Blinds + Shades serves Henderson, Summerlin and the entire Las Vegas Valley, including neighborhoods like Anthem, Green Valley, Seven Hills, The Ridges, Southern Highlands and Lake Las Vegas. There's no showroom to drive to, because we bring the showroom to you with samples and in-home design. Appointments are Monday through Saturday, 9 to 5. Call 702-900-3117.

Question 6

What is motorized sheer drapery?

Accepted Answer

Motorized sheer drapery is a modern alternative to traditional drapery that combines the soft look of fabric panels with the easy operation of a shade. It's a great fit for large sliding doors and wide windows common in Las Vegas and Henderson homes. Smart Blinds + Shades designs and installs it locally. Call 702-900-3117 to see fabric options.

Question 7

Are custom wood composite shutters a good choice for Las Vegas homes?

Accepted Answer

Yes, custom wood composite shutters are a strong choice for Las Vegas homes because they add timeless, high-end style, insulate against desert heat, and are custom-fit to each window. Shutters also raise perceived home value and are easy to clean in dusty conditions. Smart Blinds + Shades measures and installs custom wood composite shutters across Las Vegas, Summerlin and Henderson. Call 702-900-3117 for an in-home consultation.

Question 8

Do honeycomb shades really save energy in Las Vegas?

Accepted Answer

Yes, honeycomb (cellular) shades help save energy because their honeycomb-shaped cells trap air, creating an insulating layer that slows summer heat gain and winter heat loss. In Las Vegas, that can mean a cooler home and less strain on your AC. Blackout and light-filtering options are available, and they can be motorized. Call 702-900-3117 for an in-home quote in Las Vegas or Henderson.

Question 9

What window covering brands do you carry?

Accepted Answer

Smart Blinds + Shades carries premium brands, led by leading manufacturers like Hunter Douglas and Alta, plus Made-in-USA shade makers and designer fabric houses. As an independent dealer, Jennifer recommends the product that's actually best for each window, not a single house brand, from motorized shades and motorized sheer drapery to custom wood composite shutters and custom drapery. Servicing the Las Vegas Valley and Henderson, we bring the showroom to you! Call 702-900-3117.

Question 10

Why choose an independent local window covering expert over a franchise?

Accepted Answer

An independent local expert gives you personal accountability and unbiased product advice. Jennifer Wells has 20+ years in the industry, and her family has been in window coverings since the 1970s. As she says, "I didn't buy a franchise. I am the franchise." Expect no pressure, no hidden fees and no pushy same-day close. Call 702-900-3117.

Question 11

Do you offer custom drapery in Las Vegas?

Accepted Answer

Yes, Smart Blinds + Shades designs custom drapery for Las Vegas and Henderson homes, including motorized drapery, blackout linings and fabrics from top designer fabric houses. Drapery pairs beautifully with motorized shades for both style and sun control. Jennifer brings fabric samples to your home so you can see them in your own light. Call 702-900-3117 to book an appointment.

Question 12

What are your hours and how do I book a consultation?

Accepted Answer

She'll bring samples, measure your windows and give you a clear quote. Servicing the Las Vegas Valley and Henderson, we bring the showroom to you!

Question 13

Is installation included, and what warranty do you offer?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Professional measuring, installation, programming and a walkthrough of your controls are all included. Every installation is backed by our 90-day installation guarantee, plus the manufacturer's factory warranty. Most motors, including Somfy, Alta and Hunter Douglas, carry a five-year standard warranty. After 90 days, warranty work carries a service call fee, but we always send a technician to your home to take care of it. You'll never have to box up a shade and mail it anywhere.

Question 14

Do you have a showroom I can visit?

Accepted Answer

We bring the showroom to you. Jennifer brings fabrics, samples and motorization demos to your home, so you can see everything in your own light and space.

Question 15

Can motorized shades work with my smart home?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We integrate motorized shades with Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home and whole-home automation systems, with scenes and schedules for sunrise, sunset and afternoon sun.

Question 16

Can you install shades in soffits or hide the hardware?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Recessed soffit and pocket installs are a specialty. We've done them in Ascaya and MacDonald Highlands, where the shade disappears completely when raised.

Question 17

What's the difference between solar roller shades and blackout shades?

Accepted Answer

Solar roller shades filter heat and glare while keeping your view, with openness from 1% to 10%. Blackout shades block light for bedrooms and theater rooms. Many homes pair them on dual rollers.

Question 18

How long does a project take?

Accepted Answer

Most custom orders take a few weeks from consultation to installation, depending on the product and fabric. Jennifer will give you an exact timeline at your consultation.

Question 19

Can I add a liner to woven wood or Roman shades?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Both woven woods and Roman shades come with a choice of liner: no liner, light filtering or room darkening, so you have more light control. On certain brands, woven woods can also have independent liners that operate separately from the shade, giving you texture by day and privacy or darkness when you want it.

Question 20

What's the difference between woven wood shades and Roman shades?

Accepted Answer

Woven wood shades are made from natural materials like bamboo, grasses, reeds and jute. Roman shades are sewn from fabric, such as linen, solids or patterns, and fold into flat or relaxed pleats. Both give more texture and a more tailored look than a plain roller shade.

Question 21

What Roman shade styles are available?

Accepted Answer

The three most standard Roman styles are knife pleat, with crisp, tailored horizontal pleats; hobbled, with soft cascading folds that stay layered even when lowered; and flat, with smooth fabric that folds neatly as it rises. Relaxed Roman shades and specialty styles are also available.

Question 22

Can woven wood and Roman shades be motorized?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Both are available cordless or motorized. Motorized shades run by remote, app, voice or schedule and work with Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home.

Question 23

Will woven woods and Roman shades fade in the Las Vegas sun?

Accepted Answer

Natural fibers and fabrics can lighten over time with strong UV, especially on south and west windows. A liner helps protect the shade, and we can recommend weaves and fabrics that hold up well in desert sun.

Question 24

What is the difference between room-darkening and blackout shades?

Accepted Answer

Room-darkening fabric blocks most light, and blackout fabric blocks light through the fabric itself. The bigger difference is usually the edges. Light gets in around the sides of any roller shade unless the edges are sealed, which is why we recommend LightGuard 360™ side channels when a room needs to be truly dark.

Question 25

Why do blackout shades still let light in around the edges?

Accepted Answer

A standard inside-mount roller shade needs a small gap on each side to roll freely, and light leaks through it. Outside mounting helps, but light still gets around the sides, and most people don't want roller shades mounted on the wall. LightGuard 360™ solves this with side channels, a bottom channel and a top housing that seal the edges.

Question 26

Why do some windows still get light gaps?

Accepted Answer

Window type and size matter. Narrow windows, corner windows and some window frames leave little room to seal the edges. We choose products that minimize the gaps, such as using fabric-wrapped valances instead of cassettes, which can make side gaps wider. On some windows a small gap can't be avoided, and we'll tell you before anything is ordered.

Question 27

How else can I reduce light gaps around roller shades?

Accepted Answer

Add stationary drapery side panels on each side of the shade. They conceal the side light gaps, soften the room and frame the window. They come in single width (18.5") or double width (37"), in a three-finger pinch pleat or Euro pleat, in lengths from 84" to 120", and they're quick ship in about 15 days.

Question 28

What is LightGuard 360?

Accepted Answer

LightGuard 360™ is a sealed blackout roller shade system. An integrated top housing, side channels and a bottom channel close the light gaps around the shade for the most complete blackout. It can be inside or outside mounted, and it can be motorized.

Question 29

Can blackout shades be motorized?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Motorized blackout shades run by remote, app, voice or schedule and work with Alexa, Google Home and Apple Home. Hardwired and rechargeable battery motors are available.

Question 30

Do you install window treatments for businesses in Las Vegas?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We design, measure and install commercial window treatments for offices, medical and professional suites, conference rooms, storefronts and lobbies across Las Vegas, Summerlin and Henderson, including solar roller shades, motorized shades and room-darkening shades from Hunter Douglas and Alta. Every installation is backed by our 90-day installation guarantee, plus the manufacturer's factory warranty.

Question 31

Why are solar roller shades used in commercial spaces?

Accepted Answer

Commercial spaces need different window treatments than homes. Solar roller shades cut heat, glare and UV while keeping daylight and the view. They're durable and easy to keep clean, and many solar roller shade fabrics are antimicrobial and antibacterial, which is why they're used in universities, hospitals and office buildings.

Question 32

Which opacity of solar roller shade should I choose?

Accepted Answer

It depends on how much sun each side of the building gets. The percentage is how open the weave is, so a lower number is denser. 1% gives the most glare and heat control for hard west and south exposures, 3% and 5% are the most popular balance of heat control and view, and 10% keeps the clearest view out, which often works on the north side. 0% blocks light completely, for presentation and AV rooms. Color matters too: darker fabrics give a clearer view out, while lighter fabrics can look a little hazy but blend with light interiors. We can mix and match opacities by side of the building, and we bring samples so you can compare them in your own light.

Question 33

Can conference room shades be motorized?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Motorized shades can lower every window in a conference room at once, by remote, wall switch, app or schedule, so screens and displays stay clear. Shades can be grouped by room or by side of the building, and we coordinate with your AV or low-voltage contractor on controls and wiring. Hardwired and rechargeable battery motors are available.

Question 34

Do you handle commercial projects outside Las Vegas?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Through our network of trusted installers across the US, we manage remote projects nationwide, including a live/work space in Park City, Utah. Call or text 702-900-3117 or email info@smartblindsandshades.com to start a project.
